Gochu-Chicken Pitas

Last Week, I had gotten a new Ingredient: Gochujang. I had already cooked some Things with it, but all those Things needed just a bit more Work to be just right.

Now, after cooking with it a few more Times, my first Recipe with Gochujang is ready.

It is a quite simple Chicken Dish, but it’s just needed something more to accompany it. Something to turn a delicious bit of Food into an actual Meal.

After a while of Thinking, an Idea had formed in my Mind. I would take some other Ingredients, Experiment around a bit and then see if it was good.

To do that, I first had to cook my Chicken, I used Chicken Breast filled, with some of the Gochujang Paste, a bit of Soy Sauce and Honey, as well as a small dollop of Butter.

Since I also wanted some crisp on my Chicken, I might have actually cooked it a bit too long. It did smell incredible though.

Once that was done, it did already taste very awesome all by itself, but it also needed something more. No Food can make a fulfilling Dish all on its own.

Ingredients need to play together, create a magical Harmony that the turns into a simply good Meal.

Now I had to find those Ingredients. That was last Week. I called it Gochu-Chicken in my Mind.

After some Thinking, and then some more Thinking, I then decided that a good first Step would be to pair my Gochu-Chicken with something creamy to complement the Chicken and something tangy to cut through the slight sweetness of the Honey and the Gochujang.

I ended up with German Krautsalat for its tart and tangy flavour profile, and some simple Mayonnaise as a creamy , rich contrast.

While all that already tasted really good, it still lacked something. I couldn’t really put my finger on it, but I knew it still needed one last Thing.

That’s when it hit me: I couldn’t put my Hands on it. And the Ingredients did kinda remained me of what would go into a Döner: Meat, Salat and Sauce.

And so, just like you do with a Döner, I decided to put all those Things into a Bread Pocket.

Since my Supermarket didn’t have what I was looking for, I settled for some Pita Pockets. But that would be a good Decision in the End.

To get it just right, I lightly toasted my Pita Bread, and then layered my Krautsalat, Mayo and some freshly cooked Gochu-Chicken into its Pocket to create a simple, yet amazing Dish. Something I couldn’t actually hold in my Hands.

I had created something awesome. There was just the right amount of sweet, sour, tart, saltiness and heat. It tasted so good in Fact, I had to have seconds.

My Plate was cleaned out, wiping up all the Flavour that had leaked out with the bits of Pita Bread I had to cut off in order to fit it into my Toaster.

That Dish made me so Happy, I am definitely going to create it many more Times. It really was that good.

In the End, I really had created a good Meal, and what more could I want from it?

  1. I finally figured out how to leave comments here. I didn’t realize that I had to double-click! 😂 I like your new website. It’s good to see you writing again.

This is a super awesome recipe! I love the German-Asian fusion concept. I’ll need to try this with tempeh or seitan (to make it veg-friendly). Very creative and tasty looking!

    1. Thanks! It was a very tasty Meal.

I would think Seitan would probably work better, because it seems to be closer in Structure to Chicken.

Should taste great either way though, as Chicken doesn’t really have much Flavour on its own.

      1. If you try it with Seitan, I bet it’ll work perfectly, and it might even offer a slightly different texture or flavor profile that you’ll enjoy. How did you like the overall experience with the Sonic menu? Anything else you’re planning to try next time? Click Here
